Host your own virtual 3D art gallery for free with Galeryst and Adobe Lightroom

The pandemic has made it more difficult than every to see artwork in a gallery setting. Thankfully, as has been the case with so much throughout the course of the pandemic, a clever program called Galeryst is here to help bring the gallery experience to your computer screen. Galeryst is an online gallery platform that lets photographers turn their Lightroom albums into an immersive 3D art gallery. You can host a gallery of up to 80 photos for free.

To get started, all you need is a free trial of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and an Adobe ID. After syncing your Lightroom albums and signing in with Adobe, Galeryst does the rest. Users can select flooring, walls, ceiling, and panel arrangements to show off their work in a personalized 3D gallery. You can view Galeryst-created 3D galleries on a computer, tablet, smartphone, or virtual reality headset.

Galeryst was created by Michael Scherotter and a dedicated team of volunteers. Scherotter wanted to recreate the traditional gallery experience online when the pandemic shut down many art galleries and exhibits. This year, Scherotter took a sabbatical from his technical program manager position at Microsoft to build Galeryst.

To build the site, Scherotter used various APIs and tools from Adobe, Microsoft, GitHub and more. You can learn more about the process at Scherotter’s LinkedIn page. At Galeryst, you can view galleries that artists have created. For example, Michael Scherotter has made one titled ‘Four Journals.’ The gallery includes four separate wings.

If you’d like your own gallery with four separate wings, you will need a paid plan. The free plan includes one gallery and two wings. You can host up to 80 artworks in the free Starter Plan. For $3.99 per month, you can host five galleries with six wings per gallery and share a total of 5,760 artworks. Additional plans add more galleries, wings, spaces and artwork capacity, up to 96,480 artworks for $216.99 per year.
